Late-Season Count

The 10th annual “late-season” monitoring period will run for two weeks beginning Saturday December 27th and ending on Sunday January 11, 2026. This is the final ‘formal’ survey effort for the 2025-2026 overwintering season, though we encourage WMC participants to continue weekly/biweekly visits to their local overwintering site(s) to document monarch dispersal (e.g., when they stop clustering/aggregating). Researchers at UC Davis are tracking when monarchs stop clustering at overwintering sites to learn more about what may cause early or late dispersal. The data you submit to this project will automatically be shared with various researchers, so if you’re up for continuing your surveys, please do! If you plan to participate, please let us know here!
