Join The Xerces Society, for a sunrise monarch count training. You will be trained on protocols, general ideas, and tips for monitoring migratory monarch butterflies. The goal is to get volunteers trained to be able to do the monarch count themselves.
Starting at sunrise, you will need to bring binoculars and your cell phone. If you do not have binoculars, let your regional coordinator know so they can bring extras. Please dress appropriately for the weather (layers are great!), wear good walking shoes, and bring water.
What are the steps?
- Choose which sites you would most likely be able to adopt to monitor using our Map of Overwintering Sites.
- Download the Survey123 app to collect monarch overwintering data by following the Set Up Your Survey123 Field App.
